On Sunday, May 7, the 51st match of the Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL) will take place between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), with both teams hoping to make major strides to playoff qualified. With a nine-wicket victory over Rajasthan Royals in their most recent match, Gujarat made a statement. With 14 points from ten games, the Hardik Pandya-led side comfortably leads the IPL points standings and is the clear favorite to go to the playoffs.

A KL Rahul-less LSG, on the other hand, lost badly by 18 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore when needing to score just 127 runs, and they had to settle for a draw against CSK in their final match.

Matchup Preview: GT vs. LSG
The Narendra Modi Stadium's pitch has a level surface, however, in T20 matches there, players consistently score high totals. The average first innings score in the IPL is 164 here, but in five games this season, it has been 179. This season, the surface helped fast bowlers by giving the ball more bounce and speed. Rinku Singh of KKR hit five consecutive sixes against GT in the season's first-day meet here as both sides reached 200+ totals.

WILL THE TOSS MATTER?
It will, indeed. Only 10 out of 24 IPL games here have been won by teams batting first. Gujarat lost the most recent game here while trying to outscore the Delhi Capitals by 131 runs, and they also dropped the first two games of this season despite scoring large totals while batting first. Since there won't be any runs due in the second innings, the captain who won the toss will choose to chase.
