The only purpose of my project IPDetectives is to help software developers turn IP addresses into location data.
There are lots of things you need to know about IP addresses, here are some:
ISP (Internet Service Provider)
It is a company that provides Internet access to users or subscribers of its service. An ISP gives you an Internet account (access to the Internet), e-mail address, web space for a web page for around $20.00 U.S. dollars a month. Prices may vary in other countries.
Hostname
A hostname is a human readable name that corresponds to a device. The meaning of ‘hostname’ changes depending on the system; this post will focus on what it means with respect to the internet and the Domain Name System (DNS).
ASN (Autonomous System Number)
It is a unique number that's available globally to identify an autonomous system and which enables that system to exchange exterior routing information with other neighboring autonomous systems.
Geocoding
While IPDetectives turns an IP address into a geographic reference, Geocoding is the process of turning geographic coordinates (longitude and latitude) into a geographic reference — such as an address, or a place name — or vice versa. Converting an address into coordinates is known as “forward Geocoding,” while coordinates into addresses is called “reverse Geocoding.”

IP Address Lookup
An IP address lookup will determine the geolocation of any IP address. The results of the IP address lookup will show you the city, state/region, postal/zip code, country name, ISP, and time zone. This data can be used by various agencies to find the exact owner of any IPv4 or IPv6 address.
