The Central Bank of Iran has been granted permission to financial institutions, #payment companies and banks in the country to pay with cryptocurrencies for #imported #goods and #services.
According to local media, the Central Bank of #Iran ( #CBI) briefed financial institutions in the country on changing regulations on Saturday. Accordingly, institutions will only be able to use cryptocurrencies as payment for imported goods and services in order to overcome US sanctions.
However, the cryptocurrencies that the payments are made can only be digital assets obtained from licensed miners in the country.
These cryptocurrencies, previously obtained from miners, could only be used by the Iranian Central Bank to finance imports. Miners could only sell their cryptocurrencies only to the #Iranian #Central #Bank.
Cryptocurrencies in the country have had a very serious importance in recent years due to both the US sanctions and the economic damage caused by the coronavirus. It is claimed that an income of close to 2 million dollars a day is made from crypto money mining in Iran.
