Massive 7.6 Magnitude Iran-Iraq Earthquake: 210 Dead While Death Toll Feared To Rise Further

in iran •  7 years ago

On Sunday (Nov. 12, 2017), the entire Iran-Iraq border region was rocked following an extremely powerful earthquake, measuring to magnitude 7.6 on the Richter Scale. Initially, both Press TV Iran and the CNN initially had claimed it was a magnitude 7.2 earthquake while later on, the statements were reversed.

According to the initial media reports (both local and international), there were at least 210 deaths reported from various parts of Iran but unfortunately, 100 out of total casualties occurred in a small Kermanshah Province-based town of Sarpol-e Zahab alone.

In the several raw footage videos, people would be seen running to safety in the streets and on the roads, yelling aloud frantically as the impact of the earthquake was huge. As result of the powerful jolts, several tall buildings and other structures would be seen trembling, shaking and moving while shelf-stocks in various stores just oozing out to floors.

It is feared that countless people are still buried under the debris and rubble of damaged buildings, with rescuers trying their best to reach the helpless victims.
