HURRICANE IRMA - Prelude to a Natural Disaster

Hurricane Irma; the largest, strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic, is devastating everything in its path and is headed straight into Florida.

I used to live in upstate NY where we would get monumental blizzards. People would stock up on things they would need if they lost power in the wake of the storm. That was nothing compared to the fear caused by a hurricane. This is my first time being threatened by a storm of this magnitude. I moved here about two years ago near Orlando. I was here for Hurricane Matthew and thought it was crazy then how people reacted. That wasn't anything compared to the collective panic I am witnessing now. Mandatory evacuations have been ordered for all Florida coastal areas. Houses are being boarded up. Stores are rationing cases of water to customers. It is CHAOS!

Let me try to give you an idea of how this storm is affecting the people of Florida. I work for a major grocery store, PUBLIX, and I work for a fairly large volume store. Deliveries to stores have been suspended on non crucial items so that our trucks are free to deliver water and ice. My store has been getting ten to fifteen pallets of water a day. there are 80 cases to a pallet. That's twelve hundred cases of water a day. At a two case limit they are being sold out in less than an hour. There are lines waiting at the door when we open the store to get water and supplies like batteries, charcoal, paper products, canned foods, bread, crackers, anything that will sustain through the devastation and the aftermath. Our store is always full and well stocked. These pictures show what my store looks like right now with the hurricane still three days away.

We will be staying here through the storm unless the mandatory evacuations reach this far inland. My son's boss has already secured rooms at a hotel as a just in case. I will be doing updates throughout the weather event.

Very sad what has happened! I believe climate change is to blame with warmer waters comes more storms! Thanks for the post!

And BTW hurricanes often develop when a cool air front stalls over warm tropical waters, allowing large amounts of the warm water vapor to be transferred into the air. Climate is always changing, we called that "Weather."

Yea all the real scientist have agreed climate change is real. It's a shame seeing that some people still believe the propaganda trying to make it look false

Your source is from 2009. Are you a troll? Lol
Do you have the ability to do research yourself? Or do you need help?

I don't choose sides. I just believe facts. Proof is everywhere I've traveled but a good documentary for you to watch would be before the flood it's pretty simple you should be able to understand it. Why would the world have a climate summit if it's false?

Go outside and see the world. You're both trolls lol

reguardless of your unreputable sources Maimi is about be underwater, not just by weather, by sea level rise.... caused by wait for it ..... climate change.

First source agrees that climate change is a thing. Second one is opinionated. Third is trash. And the fourth one also makes me believe climate change is real but it also makes me believe you are one of those chemtrail freaks that doesn't want any planes flying over your house! You are for sure a troll come out of your trailer check out the rest of the world.

Stay safe

Be careful..

Doing our best to be prepared. Hopefully I can get some amazing video of this storm.

A video ain't worth dying for..

I'm pretty sure we are far enough inland where we will see the winds but not the devastation suffered by some of the islands in the path. Like I said, if there is a mandatory evacuation of this area we are gone! I do not think my video is worth my life! Period!

Thank you for the blog post. I am praying that this storm will dissipate quickly and damage will not be too severe. Be safe!
I live on a small island of the coast of Canada. Hurricanes are usually not more than cat 1 or tropical storms when they reach us so wind is not usually the issue here - it's storm surge. Over the years (I'm in my 5th decade of life) I can see a rise in the "normal" sea level so high tides combined with storm surge are more devastating than they were just 20 years ago. Climate change deniers should see what I see every day with rising sea levels and warming ocean waters.
