Yes, Sharia Law is A Bad Thing

Sharia Law has in part hit the news and mainstream discussion because of an organizer for the recent Women's March is supposedly a proponent of Sharia Law. If you are feeling a certain sense of confusion, I cannot blame you. I feel this same confusion. The tenets of Sharia Law are completely contrary to women's rights. If Sharia Law were implemented, the society that it would become a literal patriarchy, a literal rape culture. Linda Sarsour, the aforementioned planner, has ties to Hamas and is a proponent of Sharia Law in America.

On Twitter though, she has only thought to talk about interest free loans and credit cards, which sounds great...but then you have to remember that there is a plethora of other atrocious stuff within Sharia. You know, all of the anti-woman and anti-LGBT matters.

  • Adultery as a capital crime: can be punished by lashing and stoning
  • Female Genital Mutilation
  • Gender Inequality: Sharia explicitly relegates women to a status inferior to men.

• Testimony of a woman before a judge is worth half that of a man.

• Women are to receive just one half the inheritance of a male.

• Muslim men are given permission by Allah in the Koran to beat their wives.

• Muslim men are given permission by Allah to commit marital rape, as they please.

• Muslim men are permitted to marry up to four wives and to keep concubines in any number.

• Muslim women may marry only one Muslim man and are forbidden from marrying a non-Muslim.

• A woman may not travel outside the home without the permission of her male guardian and must be accompanied by a male family member if she does so.

• Under sharia, to bring a claim of rape, a Muslim woman must present four male Muslim witnesses in good standing. Islam thus places the burden of avoiding illicit sexual encounters entirely on the woman. In effect, under sharia, women who bring a claim of rape without being able to produce the requisite four male Muslim witnesses are admitting to having had illicit sex. If she or the man is married, this amounts to an admission of adultery.

  • Underage Marriage: Islamic doctrine permits the marriage of pre-pubescent girls. There is no minimum age for a marriage contract and consummation may take place when the girl is age eight or nine.

Above section information can be found here.

Many states have proposed anti-Sharia measures, but some have been overturned due to "potential harm to Muslims". The last time I checked though, there was a separation of church and state. No one religion should supersede the Constitution. Why? Simple. Because not everyone subscribes to a religious belief, Abrahamic or otherwise. What I am trying to understand is why and how a woman can be in support of Sharia Law, something that seeks to oppress her. What I am trying to understand is how then, that this woman can advocate for such a system anywhere else. How this woman can go on national television and can advocate for such a barbaric system that would turn America into the very thing they are protesting?

(with thunderous applause)
