To be accurate, I have read all answers before I make my case. I have seen good answers and poor answers and I have seen answers that is no answer at all, only propagating subjective understanding.
Some of what I write here has been said by others in their answers but in my opinion, it comes down to a few basic understandings that, I think, many have missed.
We need to define what a religion is in order to answer the question correctly. So from Wikipedia we take the following: "Religion is a cultural system of behaviors and practices, mythologies, world views, sacred texts, holy places, ethics, and societal organisation that relate humanity to what an anthropologist has called "an order of existence". [1] Different religions may contain various elements, ranging from "the belief in spiritual beings", [2] the "divine", [3] "sacred things", [4] "faith", [5] a supernatural being or supernatural beings" [6] such as God or angels, or "...some sort of ultimacy and transcendence that will provide norms and power for the rest of life." [7]"
Let's take out of this definition the parts that would relate to Islam, not debating truthfulness/correctness:
- Cultural system
- Beheviours and practices
- World views
- Sacred texts
- Holy Places
- Ethics
- Societal organazation
- Faith
- Spiritual beings
- Devine
From this we can see that Islam fits just about all of the criteria for a religion. Now we need to determine whether these characteristics are the best. Well, in order to determine who/what/which is the best, you need to compare it with other similar things (religions). Here is the conundrum of the answer, 'the best' can be a subjective opinion or a scientific result.
The scientific result would not be possible as science would ultimately be unable to proof the validity of the truthfulness/correctness of the religious claims. IT is based on faith and faith is not science..... uh, it is faith.
So we a are left with subjective opinions. There would be no objective opinions as an outsider would have to employ scientific methods to be unbiased.
Therefore, we cannot have a answer of why Islam is the best. We could take the 10 characteristics and compare it in a table with other religions, deciding which religion produced/produces the best result. But that would again be subjective to personal opinion.
So personally, and this is the best objectivity I have. I think Islam is the best religion in subduing people. Christianity is the best religion to deceive. Judaism is the best at being secretive and Hinduism is the best at being harmonious. Buddhism (not really a religion) seems best at being peaceful and all others are in between
