A total of about 1200 Islands in Total.

States & Union Territories which have and are comprised of Islands are as follows.

Andaman Nicobar Islands has about 572 Islands out if which 80% is uninhabited. The Main ones are:

1. Andhra Pradesh has four Islands.

Bhavani
Divisima
Hope Island
Sriharikota ( Indian Space Research Organisation Rocket Launch Site)

1. Assam has three Islands, man made one of them.

Dibru Saikhowa, Majuli & Umananda Island

Majuli happens to be World's Largest River Island. Here is a picture of Majuli Island which is also a state recognized district. This Island Sits on Brahmaputra River. Astonishing.

1. When I was researching for topics, I realized that the state of Bihar also has an Island, in a river. Raghopur is Situated between two streams of the Ganges. It is connected to Patna by Pipa pul. Here is an image showing people crossing Pipa Pul on their way to Patna.

1. The Union Territory of Daman & Diu.

Diu District is the tenth least populated district of India.. The city is one of the hundred Indian cities competing in a national level competition to get the funds under Narendra Modi's flagship Smart Cities Mission. Diu will be competing for the one of last 10 spots against 20 cities from across India.

1. Goa has whoa ! So many great Islands : Anjediva, Chorao, Chumbarjua, Divar, Sao Jacinto, Sir Estevam, Tiswadi, Vanxim, Grande Island & Pequenio.

1. Islands in Gujarat : Bet Dwarka, Gangto Bet, Kabirvad, Dholavira, Khadir Bet Island, Kutch district, Kutch Island, Nanda Bet Island, Piram Island, Pirotan Island, Shiyal Bet Island

1. Well really ? Jammu & Kashmir also has Islands, but both of them are manmade and are a part of Tourism Department. Their names are Char Chinar (Ropa Lank) & Zanu Lank. Here is a picture for you to see. On the mystical Dal Lake this beautiful Island totally mesmerizes the eyes of a seeking traveller.

1. The state of Karnataka also has Islands. Here are the names. Basavaraj Durga Islands, Netrani, Kurumgad, Nisargadhama, Pavoor Uliya, Srirangapatna, St. Mary’s Island & Uppinakudru Islands. Most of these Islands are in Karwar which happens to be a defence Layout. Venturing into these Islands may be difficult. Islands in Udupi are famous for Coconuts. You can travel to Kurumgad which is a sought touristy place with a resort and a campsite. The place also houses a temple. A meant escapade out of routine.

Kerala also has about twenty plus Islands which are : Willingdon, Vypil, Venduruthy, Nedungad, Munroe, Padangal, Kohad, Gundu, Elumanthiruthu, Dharmadam, Chavara Thekkumbhagom, Edayilakkad, Pathiramanal, Pizhala, Poochakkal, Pulinkunnoo, Ramanthuruth, Sathar & Vallarpadam. Beautiful all of them so I am putting up a collage of all the pictures of all the Islands in Kerala. Willingdon Islands is the largest artificial island in India, which forms part of the city of Kochi, in the state of Kerala, India. Much of the present Willingdon Island was claimed from the Lake of Kochi, filling in dredged soil around a previously existing, but tiny, natural island. Willingdon Island is significant as the home for the Port of Kochi, as well as the Kochi Naval Base (the Southern Naval Command) of the Indian Navy and Central Institute of Fisheries Technology, a constituent unit of Indian Council of Agricultural Research.

1. Lakshadweep comprises of 25+ Islands of which main ones are : Aminidive, Laccadive & Minicoy. The most challenging airstrip after the one in Shimla.

This one is Agatti Island. A whole Island for an airport.

1. Mmm, seems like Central India has something to show. Madhya Pradesh has one Island namely Mandhata. Mandhata also called Shivapuri or Omkareshwar, is an island in the Narmada river in Khandwa district, Madhya Pradesh, India. Omkareshwar Jyotirlinga is situated on the southern part of the island. Omkareshwar Mandhata is located on the Mandhata hill on the banks of the Narmada.The name "Omkareshwar" is due to the shape of the island, which appears to be Om. It is about 2 km long and 1 km wide. Local tradition reveals that King Mandhata paid homage to Shiva here and made this holy place his capital.

Maharashtra has a lot of Islands too, here they are : Ambu, Butcher, Cross, Elephanta, Gowalkot, Hog, Khanderi, Madh, Marve, Middle Ground Isle, Murud Janjira, Oyster Rock, Panju, Salsette, Sinoy Hill, Suvarnadurg, Underi & Yashwantgad. Mumbai is comprised of seven islands : Bombay Old, Colaba, Mahim, Old Woman’s Island, Mazgaon, Parel & Worli.

1. Manipur - The jewel of Nine hills, has a couple of Islands called : Floating Islands & Keibul Lamjao.

1. Odisha, undoubtedly has seven of them : Abdul Kalam Island or Wheeler Island, Cattle, Hukitola, Kalijai, Kanika, Nalbana & Parikud Island.

Nalbana is home to thousands of beautiful birds and is India's one of the most prominent Bird Sanctuary.

Tamil Nadu has fourteen Islands, some of which are man made/artificial Islands : Vivekananda Rock, Pamban, Muyal Theevu, Rama Setu, Srirangam, Pullivasal, Kattupalli, The Quibble, Upputhanni, Nallathanni Theevu, Krusadai, & Katchatheevu (Now Sri Lanka). Srirangam is bounded by the Kaveri River (also known as Cauvery river) on one side, and the Kaveri distributary Kollidam (Coleroon) on the other side. Srirangam is home to a significant population of Sri Vaishnavites (followers of Lord Vishnu).

1. West Bengal has Sunderbans. Undoubtedly the mighty dense forest is a home to world famous Bengal Tigers. The state also has one more Island in Malda district. The island is part of the Manikchak community development block and is surrounded by Ganga River and Fulhar river. The name is Bhutni.

About Sundarbans : Located in the delta region of Padma, Meghna and Brahmaputra river basins, this unique forest extends across Khulna, Satkhira, Bagerhat districts of Bangladesh and South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas districts of West Bengal, India. The Sundarbans contain the world's largest coastal mangrove forest, with an area of about 10,000 km2 (3,900 sq mi), of which about 6,000 km2 (2,300 sq mi) are located in Bangladesh and about 4,000 km2 (1,500 sq mi) in India. The Bangladeshi and Indian parts of the Sundarbans, while in fact adjacent parts of the uninterrupted landscape, have been listed separately in the UNESCO World Heritage List: as Sundarbans and Sundarbans National Park respectively. It is the world's largest delta.
