The Gaza trolley problem.

Needless to say, I know next to nothing about military strategy and the local circumstances on the ground, but I do wonder about the warnings that a ground invasion into Gaza will be stepping into a trap. Hamas cares less than Israelis about collateral damage inside Gaza. Indeed, they probably welcome a rising number of "martyrs" to the cause. On the other hand, I certainly agree that Hamas needs to be destroyed. The question is how.

As it now stands, Israel is holding the whole of Gaza hostage in order to free the hostages inside Gaza. Will this work? I certainly hope so.

Remember the puzzle of a train driver having to choose whether to run down a bunch of people ahead or divert the train and kill one person on the side?
