When should Israel stop?

The repeated lines against Israel in regard to this conflict is basically bored down to, "There's a time to stop, and that time has passed."

This is all garbage.

I look at what Israel has been doing since October 7th as self-defense principles on a macro level.

Of course, the laws of self-defense vary. The ethics of self-defense vary. A consistent idea is that self-defense ends when the threat ends. If you're attacked, and you start winning the fight, and your attacker taps out and/or out-right surrenders, you have to stop.

Still, the general rule is that you stop when your threat stops being a threat.

Yeah, Israel has responded to the acts of deadly force by her enemies very effectively. Yes, the fight has generally turned in favor of Israel.

Still, Hamas and Hezbollah haven't cried uncle and surrendered or apologized -- begged for mercy. They're the knife wielding maniac that you managed to shoot in the gut who is still on his feet -- knife still in hand -- yelling about how he's still gonna gut you and your family while crawling toward you with all of his strength.

A Hamas surrender is the moment when Israel should stop. A Hezobollah surrender is when Israel should stop.

Note that I didn't say "ceasefire." I said "surrender." They need to throw up their hands, say that they're sorry, and the leadership has to give themselves up.

That's when Israel should stop.

The East and West have been at war since antiquity. I don't expect the war to end in my life time.

As for the current conflict.

I can't help but notice that every single rocket fired by Hamas and Hezbollah was intended to kill people. The anti-missile defense system does not change the intent of the missiles.

Building a missile base in a childcare center makes for great PR because retaliation will result in dead children.

I think intent matters more than the actual result. Hezbollah intends to kill civilians. IDF intends to take out missile bases.

I am not moved by the PR.

Unfortunately, I don't see a surrender in the future. We are trapped in a forever war.
