Poland Did Nothing Wrong And A Lot Right

in israel •  6 years ago

So much slander has been levelled against Poland that Jews have been convinced that the Polish people are almost as guilty as NAZI Germany. This view couldn’t be more wrong, Poles were victims of NAZI Germany just like Jews, Gypsies, Homosexuals, the Mentally Handicapped, Jehovah’s Witness’s, Slavs of various stripes(Special shout out to the heroism of the Serbs) and perhaps forgivably Communists.

There is no evidence to demonstrate that the majority or even an appreciable percentage of Poles collaborated with the Nazis. Few collaborated. A somewhat larger (though still small) number of Poles resisted. Most people did neither and could do neither. Yet, as noted before, a single collaborator could do immense damage, proving only that it is easier to destroy than to build. An act of a single moment could condemn a Jew in hiding to death, while hiding a Jew took the daily actions of dozens of people over 4 or 5 years. Any action that aided the Nazis increased the “barbarity and inhumanity of the Holocaust,” yet why does the single act of evil seem more apt to find a place in our memory than many acts of good?

Jews have been a part of Poland since it’s beginning, they helped build the country acting as a managerial class for the Polish nobility. Things were not always smooth between Jews and the Polish people but for over a thousand years they coexisted fruitfully. Jews were often mercenary in their relationship with Poland’s serfs and the Polish people were often resentful towards the Jews, sometimes boiling over into violence. Longtime neighbours have complicated relationships and this kind of history is not unique to Poles and Jews.

Polish anti-Semitism has been endemic in the past, with some strains of it still contaminating Polish society. The Polish democratic governments, on the other hand, have been one of the closest allies and friends of the Jewish state in Europe. Poland has stood with Israel at UN agencies, as well as in the EU. Poland moreover, does not fund anti-Israel Non-Governmental Agencies (NGO’s) as Germany does these days. Nor does Poland act hypocritically as Germany does with regards to its hidden support of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions) movement.

It’s time to put aside the small part of Jewish/Polish shared history that is bad and remember the greater positive aspects, looking forward to a future where Poles, Israelis and Anglos are close allies.

We all face the same existential threats of Cultural Marxism and Islamo-Fascism why wouldn’t we be allies?

Wonderful video!

A great explanation of what is wrong with describing the Nazi death camps as Polish.

As an Israeli Jew I fully agree with what is said in the video.

There is great sensitivity in Israel over this issue. Indeed my wife's entire family was murdered by the German Nazis in a tiny village called Szczebrzeszyn in eastern Poland. See https://steempeak.com/steemfest/@apshamilton/steemfest-and-szczebrzeszyn

However the blame needs to be always sheeted home to the German Nazi regime, which sought to erase both the Jews and Polish identity and sovereignty.

There is great opportunity for friendship between Israel and Poland.

As an Arian , i tell you that : 278b4aabd9cc4803e1b523d95f6f79cc6f60880d6b2e5f5ae7b9881a31c08525.jpg

By a string of bizarre coincidences I'm meeting up with Stefan (the guy who made this video) in Israel over the next few days. I agree entirely with the sentiment that Israel and Poland have a lot more in common now and going forward and that dwelling on the past isn't good for either of us.

I've long felt that there were malicious forces working to produce this entire explosion of bad will between the far-left in Israel (who for sure control cultural icons like the Yad Vashem museum) and the more extreme elements of Poland's far-right (which does exist).

Hopefully Stefan will be able to make some useful videos here in Israel to take back to a Polish audience and we can make ripples here in Israel that help smooth things down.

Glad to hear that, that will be some important bridge building.

I'm reading Solzhenitsyn's 200 years together right now and I don't see why it's banned, so far, I'm just at the pogroms right now and it is painting a much different picture than what I learned, I might be writing an article titled Tsarist Russia did nothing wrong...

I think "nothing" is usually too strong a word, but in the case of Poland I don't see why we can't acknowledge how they resisted the Nazis and were brutally attacked too.

Of course no government has done nothing wrong but quite often we have been victims of Socialists ascribing malevolent intent to whole governments or peoples.

Although I don’t see eye to eye on some stuff here, I can absolutely appreciate some realism injected about historical events that are so clouded like that war is. Thanks for the post. I’m glad to know that the usual brushes that get painted to make people look evil is almost always proved wrong.

You should challenge the ideas you disagree with.

People focus on the fringe because it divides us. I have no doubt that some degree of antisemitism, racism, or whatever exists in every society but that does not mean that it is fair to paint that entire society like every member is an active participant in those things.

Do you think, perhaps, that the very best way to put aside government created divides and conflicts - is to stop working for them by continuing the very discussion?

Not a criticism of you matey - just thinking....

We (me included) are working for the powers we rail against , just by keeping the narrative going...?
Isn't that what they want?

If that's what they want, well....we don't want to be helping them....

Would it be more logical to rail agianst their narrative when they bring it up, rather than putting the narrative into the space, by continuing to produce the material?

I hate to think I'm being a useful idiot...

There is certainly many manipulations to pit us against one another, my solution is to not hate people for the ideas they hold, while still hating the ideology that is against me.

Actions are another story.

No words about the 58k German minority? http://www.jrbooksonline.com/polish_atrocities.htm

I have not written about the ethnic cleansing of Germans from the Sudetenland but I'm aware of them, can't say I'm well acquainted with this story thanks for showing it to me.

This article is about Jews and Poles but I would love to see an article about German suffering which I would blame on Hitler's excessive ambition.

Edit; upon further reading I see this preceded Hitler's actions .
