I’m very sensitive to the innovation topic. Today I would like to reflect on the relationship between newborns and the word where they are born.

The species evolution is a continuous adaptation to the surrounding world conditions. The evolution timing is in the order of millennia.

Do you know that the human being is the only specie where a newborn starts to walk after about an year? All the others earthly species are able to walk just a while after their born.
It wasn’t always this way. This fact is a consequence of our evolution toward the modern man. An evolution lasted more than 4 million years.

Let’s now think about technological evolution. In a few hundred years we have seen deep changes. Passing from the industrial revolution to the Silicon Age, our lifestyle and habits have completely changed. But the human being remains always the same from an evolutionary point of view. He didn’t evolve in such a short time.

So if we think about it, a newborn when he’s born is evolutionarily ready for the Stone Age.

Instead he is projected into the modern world. Guess the impact he is undergoing.

A couple of evidences.

Newborns, skin to skin contact with the mother, take hers temperature. With all the comforts available today this is clearly an evolution lag.

Another example, newborns survivor instinct makes them crying when they don’t feel an adult nearby. It was a defense instrument in the Stone Age. In their cradle enclosed in the house walls, is it still dangerous today?

Continuando a sviluppare il tema dell’innovazione, al quale sono molto sensibile, vorrei portare alla luce una riflessione sul rapporto tra i neonati ed il mondo in cui nascono.

L’evoluzione della specie è un continuo adattamento alle condizioni del mondo circostante. I tempi di evoluzione sono nell’ordine di millenni.

Lo sapevate che l’essere umano è l’unica specie che inizia a camminare circa un anno dopo la nascita? Tutte le altre specie terrene sono in grado di camminare da subito o dopo qualche ora dal lieto evento.
Non è sempre stato così. Questo fatto è una conseguenza della nostra evoluzione fino all’uomo moderno. Evoluzione durata più di 4 milioni di anni.

Pensiamo ora invece all’evoluzione tecnologica. In poche centinaia di anni abbiamo assistito a cambiamenti radicali. Passando dalla rivoluzione industriale arrivando all’era del silicio, il nostro stile di vita e le nostre abitudini sono cambiate completamente.
Ma l’essere umano come natura è rimasto lo stesso. Non ha subito evoluzioni in così poco tempo.

Quindi se ci pensiamo bene, un neonato quando nasce è evolutivamente pronto per l’età della pietra.

Invece viene catapultato nel mondo moderno. Immaginate l’impatto che subisce.

Un paio di esempi.

I neonati, a contatto pelle a pelle con la madre, prendono la sua temperatura. Con tutti i comfort a disposizione oggi questo è chiaramente un ritardo di evoluzione.

Altro esempio, per istinto di sopravvivenza i neonati se non sentono la vicinanza di un adulto non si sentono protetti e piangono in cerca di aiuto. Nell’età della pietra era uno strumento di difesa. Lo è ancora oggi, nella loro culla racchiusa nelle mura di casa?
