Giovanni Falzone - Caligola - Live in Lugano

Venerdì scorso, mentre girovagavo sul viale che affianca il Lago di Lugano, ho avuto una piacevolissima sorpresa: sento arrivare dall'altro lato della strada un genere musicale a me molto familiare, mi accingo dunque ad attraversare la strada e con estremo piacere mi trovo davanti agli occhi un'ampia Piazza chiusa su tre lati da alcuni palazzi, su uno dei quali una vi si trovava una grossa insegna con su scritto LAC (acronimo di Lugano Arte e Cultura), nella platea tante sedie sparse qua e là che la caratterizzavano, nei giorni successivi ho notato che quelle sedie sono lasciate lì a disposizione di tutti 24 ore al giorno, in fondo alla piazza un palco con 5 musicisti che hanno proposto un genere musicale complicato ma al contempo diretto ed orecchiabile.

La "Far East Band", capeggiata da quello che per la critica musicale è uno dei più interessanti e creativi trombettisti d'Europa, Giovanni Falzone, si ispira con il suo ultimo album a Duke Ellington che nel '66/67 che fece un viaggio nel medio ed estremo Oriente e quando fu di ritorno compose il disco Far East Suite il quale ebbe un successo incredibile ed arrivò a vincere il Grammy per il Jazz nel 1968.

Dopo 50 anni Giovanni offre il proprio tributo a questo mostro sacro della musica mondiale con il suo disco intitolato Far East Trip, rilasciato lo scorso Maggio e del quale nel video di questo post potete sentire il pezzo intitolato Caligola in versione dal vivo.

Last Friday, as I wandered along the Lugano Lake avenue and I had a pleasant surprise: I hear from the other side of the street a very familiar musical genre, so I am going to cross the street and with great pleasure I find in front of my eyes a big square closed on three sides by some buildings, on top of one there was a large sign with the writing LAC (aka Lugano Art and Culture), in his parterre many chairs that characterized the place, later in time I noticed that those chairs are left there available to everyone 24/7, at the end of the square a Live stage with 5 musicians who proposed a complicated but at the same time direct and catchy musical genre.

The "Far East Band", headed by a man that for the critics is one of the most interesting and creative trumpet European musicians, Giovanni Falzone, was inspired by his latest album to Duke Ellington that during '66/67 made a trip to the Middle and Far East and when he come back composed the album Far East Suite which had an incredible success and won the Grammy for Jazz music in the 1968.

After 50 years Giovanni offers his tribute to this sacred monster of world music with his own album entitled Far East Trip, released last May and in my video you can hear the live version of the song called Caligula.
