Ora le nubi sono più nere e si sentono i primi lampi che illuminano i balconi e il giardino circostante il palazzo. Si sente qualche tuono ravvicinato, lo stormire delle foglie, il tamburellare sui tetti e sui vetri della pioggia. La sua insistenza, però, non disturba la quiete del paese anzi produce una certa armonia allietata dal frullare delle ali di alcuni uccelli vaganti. La terra emana un profumo pesante: è l'effluvio umido del muschio e delle varie erbe che nascono spontaneamente nel terreno. In lontananza si odono sostenuti latrati di cani vagabondi in cerca di un rifugio.

La protagonista si stupisce dei suoi molteplici interessi culturali che cerca sempre di assecondare, perché costituiscono la verifica delle sue letture e dei suoi studi, di un nutrimento quotidiano del suo spirito. La sera, infatti, si sarebbe recata a teatro. Prima, però, dal parrucchiere essendo i suoi capelli bisognosi di restauro. Decide di prepararsi in maniera accurata. Ci sarà ad attenderla la sua amica Giulia, anche lei fervida assertrice dell'importanza delle opere teatrali. Giulia è regista di una piccola compagnia itinerante che svolge il suo lavoro nelle scuole di ogni ordine e grado e presso enti pubblici. È una creatura magnifica: giovane, intelligente, disponibile, innamorata della vita e dotata di grande senso pratico. Ha statura media, capelli lisci e di colore tendente al tizianesco. Gli occhi sono castani e luccicano straordinariamente comunicando tanto calore. Francesca e Giulia considerano il teatro l'arte per eccellenza, ricco com' è di tante componenti quali gli scenari, la pluralità dei linguaggi, gli effetti visivi e recitativi.

Her friend Giulia will be waiting for her, also a fervent assertress of the importance of theatrical works. Giulia is a director of a small traveling company that carries out her work in schools of all levels and in public bodies. It is a magnificent creature: young, intelligent, available, in love with life and with great practical sense. He has medium height, straight hair and a color tending to Tiziano. The eyes are brown and sparkle extraordinarily, communicating so much warmth. Francesca and Giulia consider theater the art par excellence, rich as it is of many components such as scenarios, plurality of languages, visual effects and recitatives.

Vedono nel teatro un efficace strumento didattico perché educa alla perfetta dizione e alla conoscenza di problemi concreti ed attuali. È, insomma una forma d'arte necessaria a trasformare il mondo. Gli avvenimenti e i comportamenti che presenta richiedono risposte ed esprimono sentimenti e imperativi categorici da salvaguardare. Il "cast" degli attori espone e risolve in modo diversificato, i vari contenuti giungendo alla realizzazione unitaria della scena. Il pubblico non sempre è preparato a recepire quel messaggio che, se coscientizzato, porta ad una migliore convivenza tra gli uomini. La gente comune crede che il teatro abbia solo lo scopo di divertire, mentre non va dimenticato che esso è scuola di vita, atto a sollecitare gli spettatori a guardare in fondo alle cose e nel fondo dell'animo umano per meglio padroneggiarli.

It is, in short, an art form necessary to transform the world. The events and behaviors it presents require answers and express categorical sentiments and imperatives to be safeguarded. The "cast" of the actors exposes and resolves in a diversified way, the various contents reaching the unitary realization of the scene. The public is not always prepared to accept the message that, if conscientious, leads to a better coexistence among men. The common people believe that the theater has only the purpose of entertaining, while it should not be forgotten that it is a school of life, designed to encourage viewers to look at the bottom of things and in the depths of the human soul to better master them.

Francesca si propone di chiedere ai suoi studenti di programmare attività teatrali e musicali in sostituzione dall'assemblea d'istituto dove, spesso, i pensieri vaganti dei giovani discenti non sono annodati " al filo" in modo logico e non esprimono proposte da prendere in considerazione perché la scuola venga recuperata nella sua funzionalità e credibilità. Per la soluzione dei loro quotidiani problemi scolastici bastano le assemblee mensili di classe, mentre le altre sono da utilizzare per scopi più nobili, che elevano lo spirito, che sublimano. Dopo queste considerazioni apre l'armadio e sceglie per la sera un abito sobrio ma molto elegante: si tratta di un "robemanteau" di colore "mauve" e sopra avrebbe indossato una leggera stola di lana angora grigia perché la serata si preannuncia abbastanza fredda. Accessori dalla linea classica avrebbero completato il tutto. L'immagine che le dà lo specchio, appena pronta, è soddisfacente; la fa sentire a suo agio. I capelli sono a posto, i vestiti in sintonia con gli accessori, il suo incedere imponente. Ora dà uno sguardo al libretto, che illustra il contenuto del dramma, gli attori che l'avrebbero rappresentato e l'ora di inizio. Conosce benissimo la trama e la ritiene interessante perché ancora attuale. "Casa di bambola" di Henrik Ibsen è, infatti, un lavoro di viva denuncia di una borghesia doppia, piena di pregiudizi, dove l'autore dibatte, con determinazione ed audacia, problematiche di ordine morale e sociale. Vista l'ora, si avvia all'uscio di casa e decide di andare a piedi trattandosi di una distanza minima da percorrere. Ha paura che uscendo sempre in macchina si ritroverà un giorno con gli arti atrofizzati. Esce per tempo e a passi poco sostenuti percorre la via che la porterà dritta alla meta. Con aria indifferente guarda le case che costeggiano la strada e si susseguono a destra e a manca in una linea ininterrotta.Sembrano spuntare dalle fondi argentee degli ulivi e offrono alla vista dei passanti i loro rugosi tetti fatti di tegole che vanno dal nocciola al rosso mattone. Si tratta di abitazioni piccolo- borghese, con fazzoletti di terra attorno ben curati e ricchi di ortaggi e fiori quali rose, felci e biancospini. D'inverno, il clima proibitivo per la crescita di altri tipi di fiori, consente che queste vegetino bene,rendendo, cosi' meno pesanti e più gradevoli quelle costruzioni in cemento dalle facciate pastello intrecciate con mattoni " a vista" e adornate nel verde da modeste statuine riguardanti zampogne che fungono da fontane.
