Christmas, a day in which the world acknowledge the birth of Jesus Christ. In other words a day where the entire world recognizes Christ (The Only Begotten Son Of God) as a personality that passed through this world as a man, born of a woman. Christmas marks the beginning of the fulfilment of the Old Testament, from Moses to down to the Prophets. What now is the essence of the birth of the son of God into planet earth?

The Birth of Christ shows God’s love for us, the birth of Christ was a vital part of God’s gift to all the nations of the earth (not to Israel alone). The purpose of this gift is returning mankind to His Glory where we belong; Remember in Adam we lost His Glory; through the sin of disobedience in the Garden of Eden.

Now we know that the essence of the birth of Christ is to restore the glory of God in mankind, how then should Christmas be celebrated?

And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh. (Matthew 2:11 KJV).

The above verse focused on how the wise men from the east celebrated the birth of Christ, when they visited Him in Bethlehem.

they worshipped and then present gifts to Him

So like the wise men we ought to worship God for the gift of His Son and in return offer gifts to those around us (not just to the church).

And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me. (Matthew 25:40 KJV).

Christmas shows God’s generosity towards Mankind and as children of God we ought to do same to our neighbour. So the spirit of Christmas is that of generosity, not of parties, clubbing, and other things that focuses on our self-centeredness.

In the spirit of Christmas let us allow God’s love to shine through our hearts.

Merry Christmas…
