There have been needs for strong authentication system that can be relied on by all parties such as governments, financial institutions such as banks and other fintech. In an era in which security breaches and identity theft is not uncommon, people have lost valuables due to this situation.
Frauds such as financial crimes are sometimes perpetrated due to fail-proof authentication systems that are bypassed by cyber criminals and other undesirable elements.
Although there has been increasing use of biometrics as a means of authentication, this has not been completely effective especially when they are not backed by appropriate second or even third layer security. This leads to the mismanagement or improper access to sensitive personal data by unauthorized persons.
There have been concerns over how personal data collected from users are handled and used. This concern has led to the suspicion that companies sometimes share person data entrusted to them without authorization of the owners.
