"Rivers of jade"

In the annals of relatively easy tasks, Markus Stromph ranked in the middle of the table; but when he was demanded, he grew up in the face of difficulties, pitfalls, adversities.

In 2011, a merchant hired Stromph to lead a select group of jade seekers who should leave Guatemala for the semi-desert Mexican state of Zacatecas.

Although in the Quauhtlemallan, "place of many trees" (Guatemala) jade abounds, and some areas of that Central American country can be called "rivers of jade", in a clear hyperbole or a fantasy, Stromph was commissioned by the multimillionaire businessman for going to Zacatecas, to "avoid the crowds" that swarm in Guatemala, and because they had already been bothered by the uneven terrain.

But Markus did not form the select team that they asked, but told the businessman: "I suggest you send another jade seeker, in addition, my team will only be a pair."

Markus Stromph (Gallup, New Mexico, 1972- ), who had been a boy scout as a child (had obtained the rank of Eagle Scout) and was 39 years old at the time of receiving the commendation, was a good option for this long and laborious task. He had an excellent physical condition and liked to go out to explore nature and take long walks through valleys, hills, savannas, mountains.

From the town of Fresnillo, Stromph and his assistant, the young mountaineer and wood sculptor Matt L. Sean, traveled in the former's Volkswagen Sedan on Highway 45, northwest, to Sombrerete, where they entered a convenience store to stock up on prepared and packaged foods, sandwiches, canned foods, beers, snacks, and from there they continued on a secondary road to Chalchihuites...

In the municipality of Chalchihuites, located in the Mexican state of Zacatecas, they finally found the much-sought jade, but not in the quantities they expected. The total was 37 pounds (16.78 kilograms).

Later they returned, delivered the material to the rich businessman, who paid them the amounts of money that they had agreed to carry out the tasks. Likewise, he expressed his desire and will to undertake a new trip to the state of Zacatecas, in the next few months, to try to find other veins of jade.

Rios de jade

En los anales de las tareas relativamente fáciles, Markus Stromph se clasificó a media tabla; pero cuando era exigido, se crecía ante las dificultades, escollos, adversidades.

En 2011, un comerciante contrató a Stromph para liderar un grupo selecto de buscadores de jade que deberían dejar Guatemala y enfilarse al semidesértico estado mexicano de Zacatecas.

Aunque en la Quauhtlemallan, "lugar de muchos árboles" (Guatemala) abunda el jade, y algunas áreas de ese país centroamericano pueden ser denominadas "ríos de jade", en una clara hipérbole o una fantasía, Stromph recibió el encargo del multimillonario empresario de ir a Zacatecas, para "evitar el gentío" que pulula en Guatemala, y porque ya le habían fastidiado las anfractuosidades del terreno.

Pero Markus no formó el equipo selecto que le pidieron, sino que le dijo al empresario: "le sugiero que envíe a otro buscador de jade, adicionlmente; mi equipo será solamente un binomio".

Markus Stromph (Gallup, Nuevo México, 1972- ), quien de niño había sido boy scout (había obtenido el rango de Eagle Scout) y al momento de recibir la encomienda tenía 39 años, era una buena opción para esa tarea laboriosa y larga. Contaba con una excelente condición física y gustaba de salir a explorar la naturaleza y dar grandes caminatas por valles, colinas, sabanas, sierras.

Desde el pueblo de Fresnillo, Stromph y su auxiliar, el joven montañista y escultor en madera Matt L. Sean, viajaron en el Volkswagen Sedan del primero por la carretera 45, hacia el noroeste, a Sombrerete, donde entraron a un minisúper para aprovisionarse de alimentos preparados y empaquetados, bocadillos, alimentos enlatados, cervezas, botanas (conocidas como tapas, en España) y de ahí siguieron por una carretera secundaria hacia Chalchihuites...

En el municipio de Chalchihuites, sito en el estado mexicano de Zacatecas, finalmente encontraron el tan buscado jade, pero no en las cantidades que esperaban. El total fue de 16.78 kilogramos (37 libras).

Posteriormente regresaron, entregaron el material al rico empresario, quien les pagó las cantidades de dinero que habían acordado por realizar las tareas. Asimismo, expresó su deseo y voluntad de emprender un nuevo viaje hacia el estado de Zacatecas, en los próximos meses, para tratar de encontrar otras vetas de jade.
