Is it cultural appropriation? Or is it cultural appreciation? The question must be asked of the Thailand Government, who’s Prime Minister has been seen in public consuming ganja, with a vaporizer alongside Dr. Ganja. To boot, he was flanked by children holding with Dr. Ganja dolls! What is the world coming to? The reality is that the world governments are awakening to the fact that marijuana criminalization has been the political and economic endeavors of predominantly Western nations for decades. It has never been about pubic health and safety. It has been about controlling markets, stifling economies and criminalizing cultures and people from non-western countries, such as Thailand and Jamaica.

According to a Marijuana Moment report, Thai Prime Minister, Prayut Chan-o-cha, publicly appeared with Dr. Ganja and vaped ganja oil and rubbed some behind his ears. Dr. Ganja is a character created by the Thai government to educate the public about cannabis consumption. The website launch was held on Wednesday, December 11th, 2019 with the Prime Minister and a costumed Dr. Ganja character, flanked by children with Dr. Ganja dolls. Dr. Ganja is a giant cannabis leaf wearing a doctor’s coat and stethoscope.

The launch of the educational website (http://www.medcannabis.go.th/) was launched after the government promised the nation a New Year’s GIft by legalizing cannabis in 2019. He delivered on that promise this year and the launch of the website a testament of how seriously the government is taking the cannabis industry.

The Narcotic Act of 1979 will be amended when the next Royal Gazette is published and Thais can start receiving medicinal marijuana in 2019. “This is a New Year’s gift from the National Legislative Assembly to the government and the Thai people,” said Somchai Sawangkarn, chairman of the drafting committee.

Thailand was the first Asian nation to legalize cannabis, in 2018. This is the rolling out of a public education campaign. “This website will serve as a bridge to link the public to the academic information and facts about the use of cannabis for medical purposes,” Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said at the press conference.

To date the Thai Ministry of Public Health Opened 110 medical marijuana clinics and 24 Thai traditional medical clinics to increase patient access to safe cannabis

Ganjactivist.com applauds the newly appointed Thai cabinet for their foresight and relinquishing of old, false and unsubstantiated claims about the ganja plant. This is a move for the people. We also love the use of Dr. Ganja. This is further testament to Jamaica’s standing on the global stage as far as cannabis culture is concerned. Now we have to own the appropriate stake in the entire industry.
