Jakarta: The Jewel of Asia

Jakarta is the capital city of Indonesia. It is probably the biggest business city in the country and one of Indonesian prides. The city has become the center of economics, cultures, and politics of Indonesia. A lot of different ethnic groups come to this city to earn gold and equality. Hence, the development of Jakarta is always increasing due to many talents that want to pursue their fortunes. Because of that, Jakarta is also regarded as one of the most diverse city in the world.

During the Dutch colonial era, Jakarta had been used as a trading district by the Europeans sailors and had a lot of banks. Due to the abundant resources that Jakarta had, many of European traders saw it as opportunity and grew successful businesses which also led Jakarta to be named as “The Jewel of Asia”.

Some of the places in Jakarta still have the history of the city. These places have become the best tourist attractions in Jakarta and set for sharing knowledge. The most notable place is Jakarta Old Town. Located in the center near the west side, Jakarta Old Town is an area that is filled with historical museums and buildings of Jakarta. One interesting museum to be visited is Jakarta History Museum or famously known as Fatahillah Museum. This museum provides the visitors with the history of Jakarta during the colonial era when Netherlands invaded Indonesia. It was signed by the old Jakarta governor as a place for managing the government and expanding the development of Jakarta at that time. The old Jakarta has its own name which is “Batavia”.

During Batavia era, the Dutch established a company which is called “VOC” to manage and make a profit from Jakarta area. In Jakarta History Museum, you can see the meeting room of the “VOC” and how they manage Jakarta through a simple explanation in a 3D map. Besides this museum, there are also other historical landmarks that explain the trading system that the VOC set up. Those landmarks include Jakarta Intan City Bridge and Toko Merah which also located around Jakarta Old Town. These places later have been recognized by Jakarta people as some of best places around Jakarta.

At the end of the colonialism, VOC who already invaded Jakarta for many years, had been regarded as the most successful company in history of the world. It means that Jakarta is such an important city for trade and business purposes, making the city as one of the most efficient business districts in Asia-Pacific.

Not very different from the history, nowadays, Jakarta is surrounded by hundreds of skyscraper buildings and towers filled with industrial offices either international or local ones. A lot of infrastructures in Jakarta are also improved and however, the process takes some risks especially in traffic jam. Therefore, developers are also sure to build many apartments around to ease the employee or business executives.

Due to the establishment of globalization, Jakarta has also become an alpha world city which stands for a bridge of economic network or world center. It is because Jakarta has a strategic location to unite professionals. Not only Indonesian people, but many expatriates also live in Jakarta celebrating the free trade policy that supports Indonesian economic activities, and also the countries that cooperate within it.

Because of this, the term of integrated area is now familiar in Jakarta. It means that there are a lot of areas that unite office buildings, shopping center, and apartments in one area. This concept has been established to simplify every business process in Jakarta regarding that the mobility of the city is quite high.

A lot of opportunities in building fortunes in Jakarta are wide opened. It is a nice move to taking full advantages of working in Jakarta since the city is still developing. Besides growing up economic standard, Jakarta still maintains its culture and even mixes it with the contemporary one which also makes the ambience unique. There are some places inside Jakarta malls or buildings that interpret the mix of classic yet modern style of Jakarta culture. Trending places like Bentara Budaya Jakarta and Museum Macan Jakarta shows high appreciations of not just Jakarta culture but also Indonesian culture in General and International or Popular culture as well.

Overall, the culture of Jakarta has been highly influenced by globalization due to practical living that is also applied in this city. Because of the rapid development in economic, Jakarta has become The Jewel of Asia for its city progress and unique culture.
