Japanese biwa // Modern blend, Let it BesteemCreated with Sketch.

Yesterday, I introduced you to the koto with a few videos from YouTube. Today—the biwa.

Anyone who read my posting about Hoichi the Earless may remember the biwa featured in that story†. If you wondered exactly what that was, watch the following video. Not only will this video introduce you to the biwa, but it features a modern blend, the biwa and two modern instruments playing Let It Be.

Footnotes:

†: A wonderful tale and one of my favorites. If you missed that post or weren't following me yet when I posted it, I really encourage you to go back and read it.

Thank you for reading. :)

I post one photo everyday, as well as a haiku and as time allows, videos, more Japanese history, and so on. Let me know if there is anything about Japan you would like to know more about or would like to see.

Hi thereDavid LaSpina is an American photographer lost in Japan, trying to capture the beauty of this country one photo at a time.

It is the first time I heard the biwa although the sound of the biwa is a little bit weird for my taste the elegance and form Akiko showed playing the Biwa mesmerizes me. I never been to japan but i've seen a lot of pictures and videos about Japan online i think they give special emphasis on form and function.

You're right. Everything is highly ritualized. Form and function is everything. The biwa is a strange sound at first, but you get used to it after awhile. It's not my favorite traditional instrument by any means, but it is interesting.

Great. Hey I'm dying to see more of japan however I can;t travel there for many reasons - are you able to cook up a post about Japan? Like a travel post? It's like you're giving us a tour - I'm sure you will be rewarded handsomely if you make the post in-depth and add many original photos in it! Thanks!

Thanks for the comment :)

Actually I already do that. I post a photo per day and usually give some detailed info about whatever Japanese thing is in the photo. Check my wall. There are close to 30 of the posts now. I also have some collections of photos here and here

Is that what you have in mind, or something different?

I'm looking for something different and very recent. Check this post out: Legazpi, Albay. I'm hoping that you'd get the same amount of rewards it got.

Hmm ok, I'll check out the link after I take my son to school. Thanks for the suggestion!

You're welcome. You two take care! have a good day!
