Growing a Community in Japan With Help From Other Communities
I had the pleasure Monday to meet up with @steemitjp @yoshiko @moromaru in Shinjuku. We were there to brainstorm on how to bring more Japanese users to Steemit, support the community in general and to receive a special gift. That gift was 3000 delegated SP to each of us to help support the Japanese community. The delegation comes from a Korean Steemian whom had previously delegated 10,000 sp to @steemitjp to do the same thing. My understanding was there are no strings attached other than supporting the Japanese community. The length of the delegation is open-ended and I will do my best to honor it, starting with not upvoting my own posts anymore.
I am still working out exactly how to use the SP, but generally it will be 50% - 100% upvotes directed at Steemians in Japan who are 55 or lower. I did something similar to this in the past as well. Now many of those users are well over 55 and doing quite well, but I will continue to support them, albeit with smaller percentages.
Back to the meeting. We first met at a small cafe in Shinjuku. The agenda was set by @steemitjp with each of us contributing, taking notes and fine tuning ideas. It was extremely productive, but as an advisor I will let one of the other leaders describe the details. I can honestly say though that the Japanese community will explode by this summer with everyone working together.
After the brainstorming meeting we met up with another steemian, @maneki-neko whom I had spoke with the day before. He is in Tokyo for 3 months practicing jiu-jitsu, doing Dtube videos and just enjoying the city. He took us to Nico China, a "1 coin" Italian restaurant. If you come to Japan you may hear that phrase, "1 coin" which means something costs 500円 or about $5.
It was quite funny because as we arrived at the restaurant everyone whipped out their phones and started taking pictures. We had a good laugh about it as each of us took our shots.
Both @maneki-neko and @yoshiko did posts about it as well, but here is my take. It's a great place for foreigners looking to get a cheap bite to eat. Happy hour runs until 7pm so you can start here without breaking the bank. The food was pretty good for $5.00. The appetizer of rolls and sweet, garlic butter was surprisingly delicious.
The highlight for me was a "Mexican Pizza". It was pepperoni with jalapeños, an awesome combination that we've been eating in California for a long time.
After we all said our goodbyes @steemitjp took me to one of his yakitori spots on the other side of the station at Shinjuku Omoide Yokocho.
This is a small street of izakaya and yakitori shops and a great tourist spot. We continued to eat some great yakitori, drink and talk about the Japanese community.
We'll do our best, but we know there are already some great leaders here like @yoshiko and @moromaro that will push the community forward even without our support. Check @steemi-jp and www.steemitjp.com for updates on what is going on with Steemit in Japan. And for any whales reading, the community could use more SP delegations!

That's great. I could definitely use some help on Steem to share my posts on personal finance for residents of Japan.
Any advice?

Hey @retireinjapan, I am familiar with your posts and I feel your pain about exposure and growth. Honestly the most powerful way for both is meeting users face to face. Good content will get you there, but those personal relationships are invaluable.
Also, I think the Japanese community would like to see your posts in Japanese.

My spoken Japanese might just about be us to that, but writing is a lot more challenging. However, I think you are right. I will try to do some original content in Japanese :)

There are a lot of good Japanese Steemit users, but as a percentage compared to other countries it is miniscule. We will change that!

If you are eating a Japanese dish, you will probably eat it with "hashi" ("bar"). The washes are placed on the table "hashioki" (barstick) and on the left-hand side. Take the washer with your right hand and hold the tip in the palm of your left hand, then move to the holding position. We hold it not from the middle of the wash, or from its thin end, but near the thick end.
Knowing the rules and etiquette of an country will help you to better understand its social structure and way of thinking. It will also prevent you from making big mistakes. It is useful to know and apply some basic Japanese rules of etiquette for a country that is highly dependent on traditions and customs, such as Japan, and who takes great care of the rules of etiquette. For this reason, we will introduce some basic Japanese etiquette rules below.

Hi my friend @rt395
I really want to go to Japan. Japan is a great country.
Currently Steemit in Bogor began to grow and boom. And me every day, always coming people from various places to visit my house. They were all very curious about Steemit.
Unfortunately I have not been able to do much for them. Can not support them yet. I just ask them to be patient and always give the best in Steemit.
