I was so over the moon, and had such a healthy dose of adrenalin running, when I finally got my Steemit account approved yesterday ( My word... these block chains do have admirable checking processes!) .
In my excitement I raced off, with only a minimal understanding of how things work here; and posted my introduction. What I ended up writing turned out to be more a hastily considered stream of consciousness Now that I've found my blog page, I I realise I committed one of the greatest of writing sins - forgetting to do a proper edit or spell check !!-The result being I'm forever emblazed across the pages of Steemit with my personalintroductiot!! plus other assorted grammar fiascos.
Oh well.. its onwards and ever upwards, taking that learning experience on board as I delve into the processes of learning how to comment and understand the complex mechanics of this alternate economic system. It all looks like a lot of fun, though I have to say. I'm still a little uncertain about the use and effectiveness of these hashtag thingies, but I'm sure I'll get there with the fullness of time!!
As a first impression of Steemit, I'm reminded of some things lifted from two books I've read and enjoyed in recent years. The first is the concept of "The Well of Lost Plots" which is amongst Jasper Fforde's excellent writings. There are so many creative ideas floating around in here. The other impression comes from a book entitled "The Circle" by Dave Eggers. Its a fictional account, a bit dark and sinister yet prescient, of where our love of social media may eventually lead to. Both are reads that id highly recommend to anyone.
I've also been initially impressed by the sense of fun in here and how it all works quite seamlessly.. even the spell checker is on the ball. I'm kind of grateful there isn't an auto correction in here... otherwise the damage limitations could be severe. On that note, I'm reminded of one of the funnier examples of the auto correct gone wrong that ive stumbled across recently
Apparently.. a daughter was texting her mother to say that her father had gone into anaphylactic shock after eating some seafood at a restaurant.
Mother replied urgently.... "Does he have his epi pen"
Auto correct turned that into Epic Penis!!
the reply was "Mum!!!!:" or possible even "Mom!!!" if that event happened in other parts of the English speaking world.
Just goes to show you... as with editing.. you can never be too careful!!
