Learning Java?

I am trying to learn Java for the 'first time'. I have had some formal education with the language, but I am not a very strong developer.

Do you have any recommendations for resources that may help me to learn?

Even after I learn the language, I am not confident with that I would use it for. I am not very creative when it comes to application of programming languages.
