Pecel is a food originating from the island of Java, this food is usually served with peanut sauce as the main ingredient and mixed with various types of vegetables. This food is popular especially in DI Yogyakarta, Central Java, and East Java. As the name implies, this traditional dish consists of white rice which is then added with pecel seasoning, a variety of vegetables which are its trademark. Sambal pecel is a condiment made from peanuts, chili, brown sugar and salt. Like the pecel that I bought, it consists of lontong (made from rice wrapped in banana leaves and steamed over boiling water for a few hours and if the water is running low then the water is poured again, repeating this several times) sliced tofu, several kinds of vegetables and crackers.
