Dad of Pregnant Woman Killed by Addict Expresses Outrage Amid Outcry over Kian’s Death
When 17-year-old Kian delos Santos was killed in a police drug operation, there was public outcry over the perceived abuses by the cops in killing the minor even if he had already surrendered. Soon enough, Kian would become the face of the victims of extra-judicial killings, with no less than the Vice President of the Philippines visiting his wake.
More politicians visited his wake, churches rang their bells in protest of the killings and called for prayers for the lives of the addicts, and the media produced various articles to portray Kian as a hero and highlighted his dreams as a young man. One priest even likened Kian’s death to the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ!
Social media was abuzz, with netizens fighting over what is right and wrong, whether Kian deserved to die because he was a supposed drug runner or whether he should be given a chance to change his ways.
Amid all these came the voice of the families whose loved ones were victimized by drug addicts. Among these is Niño Piñero from Dumaguete City whose only child was killed by a drug addict. Nikki Piñero was 5 months pregnant when she was killed by a drug crazed person while she was trying to protect her friend, Lorraine Ramirez.
The suspect was later caught by the police and he confessed to the crime, admitting that he had been high on drugs at the time – but while he pleaded for the family to forgive him, no amount of pleading and saying sorry could bring back the lives of the two ladies and the unborn child in Nikki’s belly.
But with so many people now calling for justice over Kian’s death and hoping that we can ‘learn to be compassionate’ so as to forgive the addicts and pushers, giving them a chance to change their ways, Sir Niño expressed outrage that the real victims are forgott!
In his anger, the grieving father cursed all these supporters of the pain he felt when he lost his daughter; he hoped that they would also experience getting their loved ones killed by an addict so they would feel his pain and finally realize that the lives of the innocent victims were more valuable than those of the addicts.
After learning that the College of Law in Silliman University, the school where he’s also working, held a vigil to protest the supposed extra-judicial killings and support victims like Kian, Sir Niño wrote:
To SU College of Law
Those who were part of the vigil rally this evening and to one who leads it, I’m cursing you all that what had happened to my daughter and to her unborn child will happen to your family!!!!
Sana may member sa family ninyo mapatay ng drug addict….
