This will be the first in a long line of posts from my 1986 Jeep Grand Wagoneer build. I'm currently in the prep, planning and parts gathering phase.
The first parts I got for the Jeep is a set of new gears. The stock Dana 44 axles come with 2.73 gears, which will not work with 35's unless I'm always going downhill. 😂 I decided to go with 4.10 gears. This will allow me to run on the highway, where the 2.73 wouldn't. Well, technically I could use them on the highway.....if I ever got up to speed.
With 4.10 gears running 75mph on the highway, it will be turning 3200 RPM. That is acceptable for my intended purpose. I've heard great stuff about Yukon Gears and decided to go with them for the gears and carrier.
I also got a Mini Spool just in case I want to lock the rear end in the future. For those who don't know what that means, it's when both rear tires spin on matter what. It really beats up the rear end if you are driving it on anything other than dirt/mud or snow. Here is a nice shot of it.
Some other things I've accomplished but didn't get pictures of are:
Pulled the front sway bar
Pulled the front shocks
Started cleaning off the frame for eventual paint
Pulled some of the interior in preparation for new carpet
More updates to come as I get them completed. This build should take me around a year at the pace I work and the 0 help I get with it.
Stay tuned!

I understood almost nothing about this post.... I am a mark when it comes to how cars actually work, but my eyes know a good looking jeep when I see one! ... Where is all the rust, I mean, my suburban is starting to rust through all over the place.

It's just the gearing. Right now it's like trying to start out in the highest gear of a 10 speed bike. It struggles with the big ass tires. If you lower the gearing it turns the tires easier. It has some rust but not bad at all. Body work will be the last part I touch.

My first holiday job was to clean such a car for the owner of the business. Other wheels though. Success with the project.

I'm pretty sure I know the build you are talking about. These things are gaining popularity fast. Can't wait to get her on the road. More of the build coming soon.
