Not to beat a dead horse; but, when you look at the illiberal left's arguments that Trump and Marjorie Taylor Greene's comments qualify as unprotected speech that incited insurrection, they are ignoring the foundation upon which our First Amendment was built.

Neither Trump nor Taylor Greene directly called for violent insurrection. Trump even explicitly called for people to remain peaceful.

Thomas Jefferson wasn't so kind. Jefferson didn't tell us that, if we're pissed off at the government, we should peacefully protest outside the capitol and support change. He explicitly told us to pick up our guns and start killing people.

"What country can preserve its liberties if its rulers are not reminded from time to time that its people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms. What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants. It is its natural manure."

Yeah, Jefferson was more eloquent than Trump or Taylor Greene have ever been; but, the message is clear. He wanted us to storm the capitol and start taking scalps if the government ran amok. Jefferson didn't want us to sit outside quietly holding a sign saying that we disagree.
