Knowing is a science-fiction thriller filmed by Alex Proyas. Proyas before we know through the films of fantasy and science fiction, The Crow (1994), Dark City (1998), and I Robots (2004). From the side of player Knowing only install one star actor, namely Nicholas Cage. Uniquely also, this science fiction film produced by independent studios, Summit Entertainment a new and then a big success with fantasy romance, Twilight (2008).

Professor John Koestler (Cage) is an astrophysicist and scientist who lost his faith in God after his wife a few years ago. One day in the celebration of his son's school year, Caleb (Chandler Canterbury), the son gets a strange letter containing numbers written by a schoolgirl named Lucinda Embry, fifty years ago. Kostler who accidentally read the letter trying to find patterns from the numbers written. The result was beyond the expectations of the professor. Apparently the numbers are able to predict accurately the time of the occurrence of a disaster / disaster and the number of fatalities that occurred in fifty years into the future. The professor tried to uncover the mystery behind all this before it was too late.

One of the unique things in this film is a combination of supernatural elements as well as science fiction. More than three-quarters of the duration of the film, the audience was taken to follow the adventures of the professor in uncovering the mystery of Lucinda's predictions through semi-horror shades. This film is like the films M. Night Syamalan filmed from the point of view of the main character (the professor) by combining elements of mystery, thriller, horror, and supernatural. Not until a quarter of the final duration, the film gives a big surprise (a science fiction element) that alters all story predictions from the start.

This film contains some very captivating disaster sequences. In the film recorded three major disaster sequences, namely in the beginning, middle and end of the film. Although digital engineering (CGI) looks a little rough but visually still capable of presenting a fairly convincing action, such as when a commercial aircraft is diving sharply to the earth, as well as calamity in the underground station. Even the climactic sequence is no longer original (Terminator 2 and The Independence Day) but it is guaranteed to make our hair shudder to imagine if this nightmare really happened.

Proyas on the theme still takes the same story substance as the two previous films, namely I Robot and his brilliant work, Dark City. Dark City can be considered one of the best science fiction movies of all time. In these two films the filmmaker tries to depict the "savior" figure in two different story settings. This time again the filmmaker is able to package with his unique and classy style. Although still in the packaging of science fiction, but the filmmaker uses a slightly different approach with two previous films. The filmmaker further attempts to interpret the "universe" from a religious (religious) perspective with a more realistic (present) approach. The cinematographer uses the late signs of the latter to become a trend and combines them with the elements of science fiction. It is not difficult to interpret Caleb and Abby as the "chosen man" (Adam and Eve) who became the beginning of a new life for mankind, then the strange figure at the end of the film is the symbol of the "All-Knowing", and the rest are "sinful" burning in "hell". Is mankind (the earth) no longer worthy to be saved? Again, this film is just an interpretation (filmmaker) about life and the universe, the filmmaker boldly responds with the word "Yes".
