The gospel of Saint Matthew tells how Jesus, after his triumphal entry into Jerusalem riding on a donkey and before celebrating the Passover, spoke to the disciples about the last days and God's judgment on the world to teach his disciples to live prepared because only the Father knows the day and the hour.
These teachings of Jesus about a future to come, bear a strong resemblance to the texts in the Book of Revelation and describe the possible events associated with the second coming of the "Son of Man."
And Jesus began his story by saying that the beginning of the end will start with a period where conspiracies and rumors about wars will be in the thoughts of the common people: "You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come" Matthew 24:6.
And then Jesus continued by saying that this time when the presence of the Son of Man would manifest again, in addition to wars, this would be a time where there would be great climatic and meteorological catastrophes, this is how he described this future fact:
"So if anyone tells you, ´There he is, out in the wilderness,´ do not go out; or, ´Here he is, in the inner rooms,´ do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.
´Immediately after the distress of those days
the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky,
and the heavenly bodies will be shaken´" Matthew 24:26-29.
The last days, as Jesus described them, are essentially the synthesis of eschatological hope in the Christian faith, and the final concretion of the Kingdom of God, the dominion or empire of God's perfections, among men.
