The teachings of Jesus: "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples", John 8:31

The teaching begins with the word, but the word is not the bible this is what the apostle John explains to us in his gospel, the word is eternal and uncreated:
"In the beginning was the Word
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.
He was with God in the beginning.
Through him all things were made;
without him nothing was made that has been made.
In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. John 1:1-3
Everything begins with the word, as when Jesus calls the disciples to follow him; everything begins with a call like when Jesus calls Matthew: "As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector's booth. ´Follow me´ he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.
Jesus recognizes his disciples in their fidelity to his word: "If you continue in my word, you are truly my disciples", John 8:31. The knowledge of the truth also belongs to his true disciples, the truth is precision and accuracy: "And you will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.", John 8:32.

Tomas de Aquinas explains that the word of God is knowledge with love. This is why the word is before love, to love something you have to know it first. Because God is wise, God loves with goodness.
The word is the way because it is progressive, uplifting, incremental, it is fermental like yeast that mixed with flour makes the whole dough ferment (parable of the leaven, Matthew 13:33); the word is the path to spiritual enlightenment because it is purifying. Love can only bear fruit in hearts that retain the word with the intention of practicing it (parable of the sower, Matthew 13:1-23 and Luke 8:4-14) and in this consists the theological virtue of hope: "And hope does not put us to shame, because God's love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us." Romans 5:5.
The kingdom of God, his teachings and his mysteries begin with the progressive, incremental and uplifting word.
