It was, of course, a news story that consumed all forms of media in that day... radio, TV, newspapers... they could not get enough of that story, and for that reason, another death went virtually unnoticed.
On the very same day in 1963 came the death of C. S. Lewis. By then he was world famous in his own right, but because of that awful news cycle, his funeral a few days later was quite sparsely attended... most didn't know he had died.
My friend introduced me to Lewis with a copy of the book, "Mere Christianity". It turned me upside down, and Lewis became my go-to thinker for anything important in this life.
That was 1987. He still is. If you have yet to settle on Christianity for yourself, try "Mere Christianity". Not preaching, but simple rational thought and observation. And it’s a very short book.
Worked for me. Maybe for you too. Hope so.
May Professor Lewis continue to rest in peace, knowing he is still changing lives by the millions, sixty years on from his death.
