Tangerang - In the past, surgery often left considerable scars, significant post-surgical pain and recovery also took longer. In children, there are many minimally invasive surgeries that are the first choice as a solution to the problem of surgery for your little one.

Pediatric Surgeon from Awal Bros Hospital in Tangerang Dr. Alifi Maulidyan, SpBA explained that minimally invasive surgery requires small equipment and fewer incisions than traditional surgery.
"Children also generally recover in a shorter time and surgery wounds are also very disguised. Usually children can even return to normal activities, playing in a very short time," Alifi said.

Advantages of minimally invasive surgery than conventional

• Minimal injury to body tissues

Minimally invasive surgery is done by doing a small incision in the abdominal cavity, then with the help of the camera will look for problems in the abdominal cavity accurately. Thus, the body parts that experience manipulation are very minimal and the action will be very focused & accurate.
• Pain that is much lighter than traditional surgery, given the very minimal incisions
• Reducing bleeding
• Scar/scar and minimal scarring
• Shorter treatment period
• A short recovery period and the child can return to activities faster than traditional operations

How is surgery performed?

Minimally invasive surgery involves inserting a port through a small incision (key-hole incisions) in the abdominal or chest cavity. Generally, the number of incisions needed is 3-4 pieces.
A camera with a small diameter - called an endoscope - will be inserted through the port. This camera provides high-resolution imaging of the condition in the child's stomach.
Other instruments (about the size of the diameter of the pen) will enter through the port to perform surgical procedures. This method is very different from traditional techniques.
Generally larger incisions in conventional surgery are associated with more healthy tissue injury, postoperative pain is more significant and recovery is longer.

Single incision laparoscopic
With health technology innovation, currently minimally invasive surgery on the stomach allows it to be carried out with only one small incision in the navel (umbilicus).
A special port will be inserted, and then the surgical procedure is done entirely through an incision in the navel. Child surgery problems that are very frequent - such as appendicitis, hernias, and testicular undesensus can be done through a single incision laparoscopic surgery approach.

Considering the incision in this technique is very small, sometimes this technique is also known as almost no scar surgery.

What conditions can be treated with minimally invasive surgery?
• Appendicitis (appendicitis)
• Hernia
• Testicular undesensus (testis does not go down)
• Gastrointestinal resection
• Liver biopsy (liver biopsy)
• Cholecystectomy (removal of the gallbladder)
• splenectomy
• Ovarian cysts / mass of children and adolescents
• Evaluation of chronic abdominal pain
• Evaluation of trauma
• Hirschsprung's disease
• Hypertropic pyloric stenosis
• Correction of gastrointestinal malrotation
