오랜만에 전시회 낼 그림을 하나 그립니다.
주제는
얼마전 시사인에 실린 어느 필리핀 할머니의 사진입니다.
그녀는 13살에 언니와 함께 일본군에 끌려갔다.
위안부생활을 부끄럽게 여긴 그녀는 평생 결혼하지 않았다.
는 짥은 설명과 함께 입을 꼭 다문 정갈한 못습의 할머니였습니다.
그 한 만은 세월이 느껴져 작품의 모티브로 삼았습니다.
여성은 이류 역사에서 항상 전쟁의 최대 피해자였지만
우리는 아직도 이런 기사에서
--결혼하지 않았다-- 라는 이 한 분장속에 담긴 기나긴 억압의 세월을 잘 느끼기 힘듭니다.
붙잡혀가서 피해를 당했을 뿐인데도
돌아와서는
스스로 수치스러움에 떨며 자신을 감추고
다른 사람들에게서 가려진 존재로 살기를
평생을 유지하도록 강요한 사회.....
할머니의 내면에 강력하게 새겨진 그 문화라는 이름의 또다른 폭력말입니다.
