Monday, the US Supreme Court released a one-sentence order denying former President Donald Trump's request to withhold his tax records from Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance, after he argued the subpoena issued was in bad faith and was overboard.
The order read "The application for a stay presented to Justice Breyer and referred to the Court is denied."
The decision would now make the documents available to be viewed by the grand jury and would require for grand jury's secrecy rules to be followed, which would restrict public access.
However, Trump's lawyer William Consovoy wrote last year that "even if disclosure is(was) confined to the grand jury and prosecutors, once the documents are surrendered" confidentially "will be lost for all time."
Trump's long term accounting firm, Mazars, will now have to release the former President's tax records from January 2011 to August 2019, according to the subpoena.
The decision will now resume work into allegations of Trump's hush money and other issues, most notably the payments made by Trump's former lawyer, Michael Cohen, to two women who claimed to have had sexual affairs with Trump.
