Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 7.15: "Whatever anyone does or says, for my part I'm bound to the good. IN the same way emerald or gold or purple might always proclaim: 'whatever anyone does or says, I must be what I am and show my true colors.'"
Stoics believed every person, animal, and thing has a purpose or place in nature. Everyone has a specific job or duty. One of the most important jobs for persons is to be good.
Sometimes I do wonder if I had chosen a different path, a different 'job', how my life would be different. But I should also think if I pursuit Stoic thoughts, it doesn't really affect my current philosophy, whether I'm a doctor, businessman, or a cook, we all have a duty to do our job and to do it for those that we love around us. So even though sometimes I think how my life would be different, I only envision that the type of job would be different, and my pursuit of excellence would be the same no matter what field I picked, and that my personality would be the same as it is today.
So then, why worry about the path we chose, its already chosen and we can now only decide the future, and we can change our futures, without changing our personality or philosophy of life choice.
