Freelancing is a great option if you have bundle of skills and can provide quality software in less time. But frankly the competition is very huge and getting decent pay on regular intervals of time may become some difficult. Initially you may get some disappointment but if you build good relations with the clients and provide constant services to them then you can grow well. But if you have responsibilities to handle and need to earn some money join a company and then keep on doing freelancing till you get good number of clients at which point you can leave your job and focus on your freelancing and even start a company of your own providing freelancing services. I am also interested in freelancing services and want to have the same career path but the above are my true and genuine concerns.
Both Yes and No, it all depends on how one looks at it. I have been freelancing for 17 years and I have tasted success and failures, but I cannot imagine myself doing anything other than freelancing.
You will have good days, some bad experiences, but you need to stand tall and stay firm with your ideology, vision and persistence to become a successful freelancer.
What is success? For some, its about money, while others think it has got to do with their level of satisfaction while working. I have written extensive articles that will give you a lot of valuable information on whether freelancing is a good career path or not.
is freelancing full time a good idea? - Learn Freelancing is one such article that you should go check out and there are other freelancing articles that will give you a lot to walk away with. If you have any specific queries, get in touch with me and I will be glad to answer them
IT Job
Job security.
Stable income.
Relatively less competitive and project / technology exposure compared to freelancing. Can run the show provided you have the skill.
Strict adherence to company policies and processes.
Freelancing
Highly competitive. You get the job offer if you work for less pay but provide excellent outcome.
Exposure to a diverse set of technologies, domains, projects and companies.
Very low or no income during the early days of building reputation and during market recessions but very high income if you have earned returning clients over time.
Flexible or no restrictions in work hours, tools to use and process to follow.
Unless you are really passionate on what you are doing, don’t go for freelancing.
Choice is yours.
good luck
