After Amber Heard detailed her sexual and physical assault allegations against Johnny Depp in fiery testimony Thursday, her representatives released a statement bashing Depp’s conduct in the courtroom.
“Mr. Depp does not have the fortitude or courage to even look at Ms. Heard at all throughout the proceedings,” a Heard spokesperson said in a statement. “Instead he doodles and snickers. Mr. Depp’s behavior in this trial has been as pitiful as it was in their marriage.”
Courtroom cameras captured Depp, 58, mostly looking down or talking with his attorneys during Heard’s extensive testimony about their volatile relationship, which began in 2012 and formally ended with a divorce in 2017.
Heard, 36, detailed at least five different incidents in which Depp physically struck her, including in a hotel room after the 2014 Met Gala.
“We get back to the hotel room, and Johnny shoves me and kind of grabs me by the collarbone area,” she told the jury. “I remember he threw a bottle at me. It missed me but it broke the chandelier.”
Depp brought the defamation lawsuit against Heard in Fairfax County, Va., after she wrote in the Washington Post that she was a survivor of domestic abuse. Her op-ed article did not name Depp.
Previously, Depp lost a libel case against a British tabloid that called him a “wife beater.” Heard testified against Depp in that case as well.
“Since he lost the Domestic Violence Restraining Order and he resoundingly lost the libel case in the UK, perhaps he should consider a new strategy rather than the recycled approach of attacking the victim, and refusing to take responsibility for his own conduct,” the Heard spokesperson said.
