Imagine the optics. The New England Patriots decide against drafting an heir apparent to Tom Brady next week. Instead, the two-time defending AFC champs sign Johnny Manziel off the street to back up Mr. Brady.
This would almost literally set the NFL world on fire. Attempting to make a comeback after sitting out the past two seasons due to numerous off-field issues and substance abuse problems, Johnny Football is drawing interest from NFL teams.
The backdrop here obviously being Colin Kaepernick's unemployed status despite a perfect clean rap sheet off the field. Patriots owner Robert Kraft's relationship with President Trump, who has called out Kaepernick multiple times, would then be the equivalent of crack for those attempting to make the connection.
If we were to ask Manziel about this possibility, he's seemingly more than open to it.
When asked by TMZ Sports about the potential of signing with New England, Manziel responded "I'll go to New England in a heartbeat."
Given that the Patriots met with Manziel last month, this isn't as far-fetched as some might think (more on that here).
It would also create a situation in which the sports world stops revolving on its axis. A time loop of sorts. Everything remains untouched in the NFL's news cycle until hot take after hot take has been thrown to the trolls at a level we have never seen. Think Matthew McConaughey's character in Interstellar.
No matter your opinion of Manziel, he's already a legend. This deity-like sense of self dates back to JFF's days as a high school quarterback in Texas and extended to a legendary career at College Station.
In fact, Manziel ranks No. 9 all-time on the SNIPdaily Legends Top 100, ahead of Brett Favre. The only thing that would set the football world on fire more than Manziel signing with the hated Pats would be Favre coming out of a decade-long retirement to replace Brady.
We have no idea if the Patriots will decide to sign Manziel. We're just here for the world to burn should it happen.
After all, the year is 2018 and Bernie Sanders is calling out Cardi B in the most positive of lights. Everything and anything is possible. Just don't choke on your popcorn should this come to fruition.
