Meaning is something you need to buttress yourself against the tragedy of life. Despite the fact, that we are fragile, mortal creatures, we can find something that announced itself as worthwhile. That's meaning. It's a deep deep instinct. Meaning tells you, when you are at the right place which is right at the border of chaos and order.
You can't just stay with things, which you do understand (order) because you already understand them and you can't just stay with things which you do not understand (chaos), because than you are just lost. You need to be in a middle of those two. And you can tell when you are in a middle. Because everything lines up. And you feel engaged, and what you doing is meaningful.
Expedience is when you do the things which gets you off the hook the fastest right now. If you play that game across the time, it does not work. It's sends you down because you sacrificing the future for the present.
Meaning doesn't do that. Meaning says I am here where I should be. You can't tell why, it's just... everything is right. Right place, right time, right conversation. And that is usually the conversation when both parties try to expend their look at the world.
The profound philosophical contemplation is to learn how to be at the right place at the right time, all the time. But you can't. Because you're not perfect. But you can be there a lot more, than you are. You can actually practise it. Practise it by paying attention.
So look for this intense feeling, when everything is lined up. Look for this vision like life could be. Pursue what is meaningful, not what is expedient.
