What’s going on in the media when they describe victims of police violence as a “grandmother”?

I’ve seen this several times.

Is the implication that if you have a child who has a child, by birth or adoption, then you’re more worthy of being treated properly by the police? Aren’t all people worthy?

Are they implying they weren’t legitimately a threat? But surely the circumstances determine that, not progeny?

Are they implying they’re elderly? The unfortunate person in this case was 45 years old.

CNN should explain.

And consumers of this type of media product should demand more responsible journalism.
