According to the genetics science, the Y chromosome from father carries specific information called "master switch" gene which determines if the embryo will develop as either male (XY) or female (XX). Unlike other chromosomes that come in pairs, the Y chromosome comes as a single steing from father to son.* Meaning, the original unbroken genetic information is passed on the father's side while the mitochondria dna is carried by mother's X chromosome, which gets updated every other generation, as I understand it.
That is why the original patriarchal Karai (readers) Jews are following the traditional father to son lineage, Abraham Isaac Jacob, unlike the heretic Babylonian Rabbis who go by mother's line ignoring the father altogether because their Rabbinical predecessors spent too long in the Babylonian exile without the original written scriptures which the Karai still had, and as the result the Babylonian Rabbis wrote their own scriptures as "oral" tradition aka Talmud, which they are very proud about, and adopted local Babylonian customs and holidays. Upon their return to Jerusalem the war ensued for the control of the Temple that the Babylonian rabbis won pushing the original patriarchal Judaism of the Karai Jews to the brink of extinction, there are only 40,000 of Karai left out of 14 million matrilineal Jews.
