The Second Book of Chronicles in the Bible tells us about the Reign of Jehoshaphat. This King, who ruled the kingdom of Judah, was an example of what a prudent and wise monarch had to do, he was prudent because he anticipated problems, and he was wise because he was an example as a person of what it means to live in the fear of God (firmness, constancy, devotion, equanimity). Jehoshaphat by the assertiveness of his actions he helped himself, but also the Lord blessed him and made him prosper. During his reign, Judah remained faithful to the Lord, but Israel did not: "The LORD was with Jehoshaphat because he followed the ways of his father David before him. He did not consult the Baals but sought the God of his father and followed his commands rather than the practices of Israel" 2 Chronicles 17:3-4.
The Bible teaches us that Jehoshaphat followed the path of his ancestors, David and Solomon in all his actions; he was a small emulator of the glory of these kings. Emulation in philosophy is to imitate with the desire to match, it is to imitate by capturing the personality of the imitated person.
Jehoshaphat promoted peaceful diplomacy, not making enemies unnecessarily, and also did not tempt the greed of his enemies by fortifying the cities of his Kingdom. His reign was, with few exceptions, a time of peace.
And peace was also strengthened because he established criteria of justice in his Kingdom. Like Solomon, Jehoshaphat learned that the source of all good justice is the Lord.
In this way Jehoshaphat spoke to the judges that he established in his kingdom:
"He told them, ´Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for mere mortals but for the LORD, who is with you whenever you give a verdict. Now let the fear of the LORD be on you. Judge carefully, for with the LORD our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery" 2 Chronicles 19:6-7.
