How to start your juicing and smoothie making lifestyle

OK so you’ve heard about juicing and you want to get involved, maybe you’ve bought a few juices and smoothies from the ever growing number of juice bars out there. You’ve felt the benefits of freshly extracted juices flooding your system with natural, digestible, useable goodness! So it makes sense to make your own at home any time you want, right?

We think so! For us at juiceproducer the joy of being involved in this healthy revolution is really simple, increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables you consume builds your health. In short we know juicing works and it works for everyone! There is nothing quite as powerful as juicing and good nutrition to boost health!

So what do you need to make this nutritional liquid gold at home? The good news is that a decent cold press juicer is cheaper than ever! Have a look at these great performers

The Juiceproducer KT2200 vertical slow juicer
The Greenis F-9010 vertical slow juicer
The Matstone 6 in 1 juicer

We recommend starting with a juicer first then adding blender or smoothie maker to your kitchen later, the juicer will extract easy to drink liquids from most produce, while a blender will just blend what you put in the jug, this can lead to very thick and undrinkable gloop particularly if you are focussing on vegetables (as we would recommend for maximum nutrition). Or you will have to add water to make your creation thin enough to drink, making a nutrition squash, not really what we want to achieve!

Try and invest in a cold press juicer, they are more robust, effective and efficient than their centrifugal counterparts. The vertical slow juicer is the “in” juicer style right now, but if you want to do what we call hard core health juicing, which means lots of leafy greens, celery and other high fibre juicing, look at the horizontal style of single auger juice extractor like the Matstone 6 in 1 juicer as these have a much easier time processing and ejecting all the stringy pulp. The reason we recommend cold press juicing is juice quality, you can juice once a day or even every other day and store the juice. This is such an advantage in a busy lifestyle, and it is certainly what we do, first job of the day is to make fresh juices and smoothie then flask them up for consumption throughout the day.

When you can, add a blender or smoothie maker (we’ve never been able to tell the difference between the two tools, so we think they’re basically the same thing) this will give you the ability to blend in soft fleshy items like bananas or avocados or ice to cool the drink. A blender is a great tool to have at home, but in terms of boosting health, you just cannot beat a juicer’s ability to turn a large amount of produce into an energy and nutrition packed drink!
