Welcome To Steemit
Welcome
Steemit is many things to many different people, one thing all those different types of people have in common when they come to steemit, is learning and finding help or a place to start. I hope that this post will give you some help and some starting points for what you are interested in. After almost one year on steemit, I still find myself needing help, and occasional at a loss as to where to turn for help. When we know something, we just have a tendency to think that everyone knows it or it is common knowledge, so yes I still get lost and confused at times on steemit, and likely will for the foreseeable future. August 1st will be my one year, so you can see you that I myself am still learning.
Transitioning
Transitioning to steemit if not careful can come at a cost. @steemcleaners is a group of steemians that look after plagiarism issues and spam abuse issues. You should familiarize yourself with them and what they do for the community. If you have websites that you have your own content on and may repost over here you should visit this link http://steemcleaners.com/reports/new and the
Content/Identity Verification
link. Looking over the entire form would be a good idea so that if you have any issues with abuse you will know how to handle it. The form link can be found at the bottom of all @steemcleaners post.
@cheetah bot is a part of @steemcleaners, it will alert you that they have found something iffy about you post. It will give a small upvote and is not an accusation of any wrong doing on it's initial comment. A member of @steemcleaners will come by and look and let you know via a really bi downvote if you screwed up. If you use any images in your post, (like I did with my little girl Shasta), make sure you provide a source to the photo and that you do have legal right to sue it. If you use only your pictures no problem, so you would think, but it is still a good practice to state it is your picture, especially if it is posted somewhere else on the internet with a different name than you have on steemit.
Finding a place
Below you will find a list of people/groups that support the topic listed. many of them have specific tags, and many are just individuals or groups that help in the topic. I do not travel in a wide circle so the list is pretty limited.

Help groups
- @newbieresteemday #newbieresteemday
- @asapers #aspers
- @minnowsupport #minnowsupport
- @welcomewagon #welcomewagon
(Many of these groups have a discord chatroom associated with them)
Writing
- @thewritersblock #thewritersblock
- @rhondak (thewritersblock lead)
- @steemmonsters #steemmonsters
- @michelle.gent #story-mentor
Games/Contest
- @newbiegames #newbiegames
- @IFC #ifc
- @apolymask #IFC
- @steemmonsters #steemmonsters
- @swolesome #life Dust And Shadows game
As you can see, I like to take pictures, I like to try and help, I am trying to learn to write, and I like to play games. That is just four small areas of steemit.
For the super smart or the people very interested in the Sciences, I would be remiss in not mentioning @steemstem. They are THE goto group for a - - Community Project to Promote Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics Postings on Steemit
- - If you want to know anything, I am sure there is someone over there that could answer just about any scientific question you have. What is really cool about them....they are people just like you and me.
I am a @newbieresteemday member at large, (meaning I do not really have a role, and I am a strong supporter of the initiative). Every Sunday I make my newbieresteemday post. This post will be linked in it on Sunday. My Steemit Newbie Resteem Post - Week 28, has several very important links and some useful information:
- Steemworld.org1
- @dustsweeper1
- @quarantine2
These links are explained in previous postings. They are, suffice it to say very important.
The Sad Links
- Phishing: Attacks and Recovery This post was created by @steemcleaners post.
- Got Hacked? Here's How To Get Your Account And Reputation Score Back! The process as uncovered by a victim, (easier to read/understand in my opinion than the one above). It is a shame that this happens, but it does, Both these post should be read by all new users, when it happens to you then it may click that there is help available.
If you need help just ask. I will try to help, or find someone to point you at that might be able to help.
Great post and cute doggie!

Sometimes it is hard to find things for the new user. I think all the little bits help.

Thank you. Sometimes it is just hard to find information, or place to visit and look at, or things to do.

I like to help new users find things they can sink their teeth into. Or to have fun with. I remember as a new user how lost I felt at times, so I try to let them know of different areas of steemit that I have found and had fun with/in.

Hey, @bashadow.
This is a great idea. Covers quite a bit of ground from getting started and finding a community to digging out of problems. Replete with a bunch of links.
Hopefully more people have read it than commented here. Plenty of upvotes, so there's hope. :) We really need a way to pin posts like this that are informational to an announcement feed of some kind.

And that is just the area's of steemit I am only somewhat familiar with. No crypto links, not much on conspiracy linkage, or information war linkage, or political linkage, or even travel log linkage, areas I just do not go to a lot, but I know there are communities for all of them, I just do not know much about them.
I barely touch the surface of the places I do go, so yes it would be nice to have a kind of one stop shop at the front door. But I guess it is up to us the users to try and help where we can.

Well, up to us in a strictly volunteer, rag tag kind of way. We really don't have a way to organize our volunteering that isn't somewhat fractured, too. It shouldn't be up to us to get information out to newcomers. Only if we want them to join the communities we're involved with. But it would be nice if there was somewhere to give them those options as they come in the door, not after they've been here floundering around for a few weeks when they stumble upon a post.
I think what you provided for links is good because you do have the personal experience with them, and know what the people in each community are like. You've set yourself up as a representative of each one, at least in this post, and so you're endorsing them. I don't think you need to try do that, or would want to, with communities you're totally unfamiliar with.
And really, it doesn't take super involvement, but it does take some.
