Fixing some squirrelly shots

Okay, so sometimes we forget to look at what setting we are on in the heat of the moment, it's grab-point-click- damn it I was on manual not P for auto shots. and we end up with something like this:

With the software that comes with a Nikon Camera that is not to difficult to fix, and if you take both NEF/RAW shots with the JPEG option also you can have a little bit more control on the exposure correction tools. So that was the original JPEG camera recorded image above. Below is the NEF/RAW image fixed using the exposure control correction tools.

A much more clear and colorful image. You can manipulate the JPEG images also to get similar fixes, the RAW image info seems to handle the correction a bit better however.

This below image is the un-cropped version of the one that follows:

A lot underexposed, pretty dark, and barely recognizable. Below is the squirrel cropped out and corrected as much as I could from the original JPEG.

I am still learning a lot about the various programs and tools to play with photographs and correct them, all while still trying to learn to use my camera and it's various functions. I only recently learned a tiny bit about the RAW/NEF image option and it has only been turned on in the camera for about a month, and I only recently started to learn a little bit about the Nikon Camera Software suite. So the above were all done with the Nikon software except for the resizing and cropping.

A three way play

So here is an image using the Nikon Camera Software for initial exposure/color correction, then with Corel Paintshop Pro for additional color correcting, text addition and slight cropping, and finished up with Paintnet to resize. We got very lucky on our drive into town today.

Well that's about it for now. It was a fun day, it was fun learning to fix the pictures, and well I just in general had a fun day and time doing this simple little post.

We have all done that before, includign me yesterday I shot an event in a bowlking alley with low light and had changed all my settings for that and the first few shots I took yesterday I didnt chekc my settings, but as you say thats one benifit of weither shoting RAW as I do, or RAW and JPG so you can recover some shots from the RAW file

The little short nosed squirrels have hilarious fight sounds. Almost like something out of a video game.
