Winter has arrived

in justincase •  6 years ago

On 11-11, we had our first snowfall. By 11-14, most of it was gone, but enough of it has stayed around.

Snow shadows, we get some really really long ones in another month.031 snow shadow 11-14.jpg

It is staying close to or right at freezing temperatures, we do get a little bit warmer in the late afternoon, but not much above freezing for a bit now. Here is a shot of some frozen tall grass.029 some frozen grass 11-14.jpg

Just a couple view of the beginning of winter here. I will be posting a few more images of winter around here as the season progresses. I hope to have this account at 100SP come spring next year, we will see.

In my country Brazil snowing is almost a thing of another planet.

I would imagine it would totally freak people out if it did all of a sudden start to snow in Brazil. I don't really like the snow and the cold, but there is a certain beauty to the snow and a quietness not achieved in many places.

Yes people would freak out here in the biggest tropical country in the world. I myself have never seen snow in my life.

No real mountains in Brazil, or just none close to where you live? I really don't know much about Brazil, other than it has some nice mild weather, rarely to hot or to cold, but can be rather humid at times especially in close to the jungle areas. I sort of feel good that I have gotten to experience a lot of different weathers/climates, although I would have to say I have never really experienced a tropical Jungle environment, the closet I have come to that is in Hawaii, or in the southern united states in parts of Alabama. Humidity and me do not get along very well.

Yes, we do have mountains, but even on top of them it does not snow in most of the country, except in the southern states of Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul. If we get 10 Celsius we call it cold.

The humidity is very varied. In most of the large cities in Brazil, which are coastal, the climate is actually very hot and humid. But in the cities of the interior the humidity is much lower. For instance, in the capital of Brasilia in the months of July and August the humidity is below 10%. Almost like a desert.

snowing … I do not envy

It is not a real fun season, but we do get some real nice long shadows, and there are a lot of people waiting for the lakes to freeze so they can go ice fishing, not a thing for me, to dang cold to do that.

I'm thinking abiout ice fishing in Norvay next year.

Some of the ice fishermen up here take it pretty serious, they take the whole tiny house out on the lake.
