Olivia Rodrigo is switching up her signature loose beach waves with a nostalgic Y2K style. On June 5, the "Drivers License" singer stopped by the MTV Movie & TV Awards, where she posed for photos on the red carpet in a vintage Jean Paul Gaultier dress. Rodrigo had her hair styled with a deep side part and two low buns. Her hairstyle was a sleek combination of Mandy Moore's look in the 1999 "Candy" music video and grown-up Jenna Rink's hairstyle from "13 Going on 30."
Styled by Clayton Hawkins, the ends of her hair were left spiking out of the buns, giving the shiny style an edgy touch. "We wanted something off the face and super sharp," Hawkins said in a press release, adding that they used Tangle Teezer's The Ultimate Detangler and The Ultimate Styler and, of course, "tons of hairspray" to create the look.
With all the early-2000s fashion and beauty trends infiltrating our regimens, it was only fitting for Rodrigo to pull off this style on the red carpet. And it's not the first time the superstar has done so. At the Met Gala earlier this year, Rodrigo wore a sparkly Versace gown with oversize purple butterfly clips. Later that night, she wore her hair in pigtail braids with a pink-and-red minidress.
Rodrigo took home the award for best music documentary for her film "Olivia Rodrigo: Driving Home 2 U (a SOUR Film)," which released on Disney+ in March. Check out the photos of Rodrigo's throwback hairstyle at the MTV Movie & TV Awards ahead.
