Former U.S. President Donald Trump has sparked controversy with his racially charged comments about Vice President Kamala Harris, stating that she "suddenly became Black."
Trump remarked, "I didn't know she was Black until a few years ago. Suddenly, she became Black, and now she wants to be recognized as Black. I don't know if she's Indian or Black."
On the 31st, Trump criticized Harris, claiming that she used to emphasize her Indian heritage but "suddenly became Black." These comments have been widely condemned as racist.
Vice President Harris has consistently described herself as both Black and Asian, given her Jamaican father and Indian immigrant mother.
Harris responded in a speech, saying, "Leaders who understand that differences do not divide us but are the essence of our strength are what we need." She referred to Trump's comments as "another display of division and disdain," and emphasized the need for leaders who speak the truth and do not respond with anger or hostility.
According to the latest CNN poll, 78% of Black voters support Harris, while only 15% support Trump.
Since becoming a Democratic presidential candidate, Harris has faced numerous sexist and racist attacks on social media. Republican leaders are concerned that Trump's derogatory remarks about Harris could further alienate female and Black voters.
