I live in Australia and this shocked me. It's funny when you talk with other nationalities and they think we have kangaroos, koalas etc just hanging out in our back yards. This isn't the norm! We spend a lot of time at the beach and I've never seen this but on a recent trip to Emerald Beach in New South Wales on an early morning walk on the beach, this is the sight we saw. They are wild and while they're not too bothered by you if you walk past them, if you get too close they will jump away. There's quite a heavy population of them there, so if you're to visit you wouldn't miss seeing them.

Yes... they will go down to the water but they are mostly found where their food source is which is in the dunes and surrounding hills.
