Plastic bags are used to support human life activities. Its light, strong, and waterproof nature makes it a practical choice to carry goods. Especially groceries. But the use of uncontrolled plastic bags is very harmful to the environment. Earth takes tens to hundreds of years to be able to decompose waste made of plastic.
The use of plastics to support human activities is increasing in the last century. Hundreds of millions of tons of plastic are produced and used by humans worldwide each year. As a result, plastic waste is also increasingly produced by humanity.
The report in the journal Science in mid-February said that the amount of plastic waste in the world in 2010, calculated from 192 countries, reached 270 million tons in the year. Not only wasted in human settlements, plastic waste is also wasted in the oceans in almost all parts of the world. The amount of waste plastic waste in the oceans reaches approximately 12.7 million tons. Indonesia becomes the world's second largest oceans of waste disposal after China. In Indonesia alone, the total amount of plastic waste production is estimated to reach 26,000 tons per day.
In order to help the campaign reduce the use of plastic bags, Medco Foundation took the "Plastic Bags Diet Movement" to socialize the reduction of the use of plastic bags. The socialization was conducted at Avicenna School for the entire Team Avicenna Care for the Environment.
This socialization emphasizes various forms of reducing the use of plastic bags and styrofoam so as not to accumulate into waste that burden the environment. One way is to make t shirt bags and manggunakannya as a replacement plastic bag. Another way is to use plastic bags repeatedly and make a special box where the plastic bag is stored. It is expected that the participants of the socialization can become the motor of the plastic bag movement movement in their respective environments.
